so I checked the code and it was P0720 Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction. The part is a little under $20 bucks at auto zone. does this sound right?????

P0720 shouldn't casue the D to die. It is a problem you should fix however. I suggest taking the battery over to the autoparts store and have them test it UNDER LOAD (not just a regualr test.) My bet is your battery is bad. Sounds stupid I know, but trust me... if the battery goes, the entire system acts crazy.
