You can buy new ones if you like although they're reusable. They only torque down to 84 in. lbs. Use blue locktite or equivalent when reinstalling. Be sure to follow the torque sequence in the manual. You must replace the manifold bolts with new, they're one time use only.
Biggest hassle some have had is breaking manifold bolts.
You can cut the heads off of 4 of the old man. bolts and cut a screwdriver slot in them with a hacksaw to use as guides when reinstalling the man. to avoid knocking the end seals out of place. Use a bead of RTV in the corners where the end seals meet the man. gaskets.

Keep us updated on what yuou find with you tranny shifting.
I put in a Jasper rebuilt trans about 2 months ago. On my old trans (in which we found it was just my over drive unit went bad) I could keep it below 2k and it would shift fine. Now with the new trans it has to go to atleast 2500-3000 just like you said then I have to let off a bit to allow it to shift.
I'm going to try this tomorrow, It's pooping snow right now.
EDIT: can I just disconnect positive or dose ground need to be disconected too?
