Oil pressure issue
Hey everyone!
I have an 01' 5.9L 1500 4 door extended cab 4x4 176,000 miles, transmission rebuilt in 2013. I bought the truck in December. I noticed when I would start the truck the idle oil pressure would sit just below 40 and would increase with acceleration. Then last week I was driving to work and my gauge jumped up to 80 idling and it threw the check gauges light. I turned it off and restarted to have it show the regular idle pressure with no check gauge light. Now within the last couple of days it will not go below 80 at an idle. It does not show the check gauges light either. It will also not fluctuate with acceleration so it shows 80 constant. I have replaced the oil sending unit/switch and have also replaced the gauge. I dont know what else it could be. I want to say the pump but you usually loose oil pressure when the pump starts to fail. Ive had people telling me it is fine to drive with that amount of of oil pressure I just dont dare to because it just seems off to me.

Put a mechanical gauge on it, and see what pressure is really doing. If the mech gauge agrees with the electrical one, swapping pumps on the 4x4's is pretty trivial. (and a golden opportunity to change the rear main seal.)
If the mechanical gauge shows more what you would expect, then you probably have a wiring problem somewhere.
