INFO FOR P0740 & P0783 CODES
1996 DODGE RAM 1500
Truck will not shift into 4th from 3rd. I checked Gov Pressure and is a little low,
maxing out around 40psi, too low for 4th (OD). I have 2 codes read when I had
a scanner put in it, P0740 & P0783. One is a TCC circuit and 3-4 shift problem.
Can anyone give me an honest opinion how to diagnose what is wrong and how
major it is? Or not??
I have read online a little but see many differing reasons..... what causes the PCM to
trigger this code??
Thanks, Rich

ever find out?
Have you ever found out what cause not those codes? Same issue here on 98 ram van,no overdrive ever.otherwise it shifts fine. I just bought this van and see Dex/merc111 quarts in the back. Wondering I'd its full of this. Its supposed to have atf+3 or 4 ........correct?
Anyway,I'd like to hear what you did to repair

You didn't say in your original post that it was working fine before you reset the PCM. So where I was heading no longer matters. All I can say is try resetting it again and see what happens.
