Default Kennesaw Mountain Accessories winch bumper -dial up beware

Ok I told everyone that I would do a write up on the Kennesaw Mountain Accessories "wincher" bumper when it arrived.

Today I received the call from Old Dominion freight that the bumper had arrived at my local terminal. So excitedly I took off & picked it up, one note here is that although I was told that the bumper weight was 135 lbs when ordering it the shipping weight was 225 lbs wrapped in cardboard & stretch wrap so I figure that I removed 2 lbs of packaging when I got home-not 90 lbs.

WOW except for a few small problems I am very happy. This bumper is one heavy duty unit using professional techniques & the welding is exceptional.

Important safety tip a standard plastic trash can will not support this bumper for cleaning! (you will see why)

After wiping the whole bumper down with acetone there was really not much of anything needed as far as sanding or grinding for prep work. So I started the first coats of Krylon Hammer finish on the inside of the bumper, after 3 coats I repositioned the bumper so that I could get to the top & outside applying 3 coats as well. This finish I have found bonds very well I did not use primer for a reason, on past projects it would chip easily if sprayed on over primer but not if on bare metal.

I am resisting the usual urges to go get it on the truck & will let it cure overnight before touching it. Tomorrow I will start removing the front bumper, Waag grill guard, lights & the grill (I picked up a black replacement grill).

But until tomorrow evening here are some pictures.

Bad As$ bumper. Now for the heavy duty springs. Their prices aren't as bad as some either.

wasnt sure if you mentioned it but how much did you spend

also.. for anyone that is interested.. you could also do a metal etching primer to bond to the steal, then do a rustoleum... i like the tractor supply - tractor + implement spray enamel. stuf goes on like goe

atleast it isnt welded by robots..

How do you attach it? I don't see any bolt holes.

You are correct, there are no bolt holes in the brackets.

Thats going to be fun, not impossible, but you would think the thing would come pre-drilled anyway.

Ok I am getting a late start on the truck today. The bumper was $500 + $40 for the added tow points/shackle mounts so $540 + $140shipping from Georgia to CA so total was $680 to my local Old Dominion terminal.

The brackets are left undrilled due to the varying position of Dodge frame to body positions which I agree with, I would rather have to get it positioned & drill the holes to match rather than having huge slotted pre drilled holes.
