Default AC cuts out on acceleration

'98 Ram. The AC works fine except during quick accelerations. Seems that when it hits 2500rpm the air blows warm for a second then quits blowing for a second or two. When the acceleration is over the AC returns to working normal. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. It isnt stopping when you accelerate it is blowing through the defrost vents instead under load.Do a search there is alot of info

Is it really switching vents? The only time it's vacuum related is when it switches vents.

Try backing off on the throttle. Most AC systems cut out at WOT (wide open throttle). There's even a relay for it.

Most performance PCMs are modified to cut the AC out even sooner when going to WOT.

Your AC is switching vents at WOT or your AC is cutting out at WOT? AC cutting out under heavy throttle is NORMAL. AC switching vents is NOT.

OK, sorry to hi-jack but what is happening when the AC switches vents?

I went out of town last weekend and during a bumpy section of road the AC would switch from the front vents to the heater/defroster vents. It would stay that way for a while, then switch back. This happened about 5 times over the weekend.

Any ideas?

You have a vacuum leak somewhere. They can be buggers to find.

Check first to see if this service bulliten applies to you: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1996/24-01-96a.htm

As far as I know this is normal (not vent switching....just cutting out under acceleration) my Ram does it.......in fact my X's Astra Van does it too. Supposed to be a fuel economy thing I think...

The main purpose is to provide maximum power to the engine when needed under WOT

Also limits the possibility of compressor damage when engaging under high rpm.
