I had a similar problem it turned out that the return line from the rack was loose and a hose clamp solved the problem

04 ram 4x4 be very careful to check where the leak is coming from.... if it is just the hose the clamp will work fine, if it is the seals on the factory rack have a real good look at it.. in cold wheather the unit will self destruct causing complete lose of steering. things get interseting fast.. switching to sythetic oil helps alot. 900 dollars for new rack plus labour

02 3.7 2wd. Noticed a little red puddle underneath the truck a few days ago. Been doing allot of reading and allot of people are mad because they are out 700-1000$ for a new rack and pinnion. Going to clean up the whole area to start with a clean dry setup and replace as many clamps as possible any what ever I can to down there and see what happens. It's a small leak on the drivers side, will post again to let everyone know what happend.

Hey all, I have an 06 dakota that is going into the shop tommorow because it failed inspection for a leaking power steering rack. I have 35,000 miles on the truck and this is my second rack, and its only 7,000 miles old.

I am baffled by why I am chewing through racks and stumbled upon this thread. I wonder if this is my problem as well. I have a leveling kit installed and wasn't sure if it was to blame. But I am going to have to look into this hose clamp thing.

Smile Fixed!!!!

Well guys, it has been almost 6 months since I implemented my little fix. I wanted to make sure it worked and I don't have anymore leaks and I don't. My girl has an 03 Crown Vic Interceptor with a small power steering leak so I threw in some Lucas Stop leak Power Steering conditioner to buy some time. I thought I would also throw some in the Ram. Little did I know this would stop the leaks!!! I had to around 2 parts steering fluid to 1 part conditioner, maybe less on 2 seperate occasions about 2 weeks apart. Since then both the Ram and the Interceptor haven't leaked one drop! I got the Lucas because I trust it, was cheap (under 10 bux), and needed to buy some time for a repair. I was beyond suprised and impressed when it sealed up my leak completely with no costly (insanely costly) repairs try it guys!!! I use Valvoline Maxlife Power Steering fluid in both cars so the combo of the Maxlife and the Lucas saved me over a grand. It is very thick stuff though almost like molasses so don't let it throw you.

I will replace or retighten the clamps eventually as it is a pretty simple job but I want to see how long this Lucas lasts. I live in Phoenix so the truck sees temps from about 29 degress F to 116 degrees F and the Lucas stuff is holding up fine. Don't know about you sub zero guys though.

I tried the website, but the rack kit for my 2003 Dodge Ram is @ $70.00. Still a much better way to go if the rack housing is what is leaking.

Damnit, mine is leaking. But it looks like the pressure line going into the block of the rack. Is there a seal kit to buy for it?
