i am not sure about the full size trucks, but most of the 05 and up dakotas that have the same pop, they needed the rack and pinion replaced. also upper and lower ball joints. on the daks everything is a sealed unit.

PLEASE HELP
I have a 2009 Dodge Dakota it only has 78k miles and only on occasion it will make a pop sound . It hasn't effected the way the truck drives but it is annoying and makes me wonder what is going on with my truck . It happens right after i crank it ill will sit in the truck and like 5 seconds later it will make a little pop sound and i wont here it again until later but their are times when it don't make the noise at all. I would appreciate any info you might know.

Im really surprised no one mentioned stabilizer (sway bar) end links as a possible cause of this issue...the symtoms are usually exactly as everyone is describing in this thread.

It is a VERY common issue in the sports car world...

Mine made a pop or clunk sound when turning left, and usually not fast, just like making a left turn at a stop sign. It felt as if it was coming from near my feet under the truck. I had already replaced ball joints, just because they needed it. So same mechanic looked it over and found a couple bolts loose on my step bar on that side. Never noticed it loose getting in and out, but he tightened it up, never made the sound again. Just a thought, something to check anyways. Good luck!

Whats the fix for this? I have an 04 ram quad cab 4X4 with the hemi package 104k on the clock.

I was about to do the steering rack, I've replaced the upper control arms, shock, outer tie rods, bot hub assembly
thanks

have a look at your CV boots on the front axles.

Also, you wanna be in the Dakota section.

Hey 'HeyYou', thanks bud for the suggestion! I did post over there after I found that Forum! As for CV boots my trucks real wheel drive so I don't have CV joints! Could it be something else?

Thanks bud.

Possibly bearings, but, I have even seen sway bar links make odd noises on turns. Crawl under and shake/wiggle things. See if anything becomes obvious.
