Default 1998 Avenger wont start, stalled, stuck at college!!

I have read the post below, but my problem may be alittle different. I have provided a few more details. I dont have any real resources at the moment. I go to school in Connecticut. I want to know if this maybe something that i can fix on my own without having to get my car towed to the shop. The past few days have been the first real real cold spurt. It snowed and iced about 3 inches. The night after it snowed I went and started the car. It started fine and I proceeded to turn the two defrosters on full blast. About 60 seconds later the engine cut. Since then I haven't been able to start it at all. It does turnover without a problem. I have about 1/4 of a tank of gas as well. When i turn the keys two clicks, I can hear the fuel pump for about 1 second. Also everything works power wise, with slight dimming during attempted starts. Also today it is about 45 out. I put in a gallon of gas with a 1/3 of a container of heet, possibly trying to free up the gas line. Maybe its the security system that wont let it start?? I also have checked the fuses under the hood. Thanks for any help you may be.

Hi this happened to me with my 99 avenger. I checked everything on it and thought of getting rid of the car. Finally I found out that it was the crank shaft position sensor. The way you reach the sensor is: You take the battery completely out of the car as well as the base. You will also need to take off the air intake tube. It is right above the transmission. Hope this helps

I had a '94 Stratus same problem & was fairly cheap for the mechanic to replace ($180). Try going to an Autozone, Western Auto, or NAPA They will be able to order the part and might have a diagram for you to go off of.

Might help to give a few hints ?
It Cranks but does not fire up , Do you hear the fuel pump prime and engage ?
Did you check for spark ?

could be a fuel pump relay , an ASD relay , bad cam position sensor/bad crank position sensor/ bad distributor/Ect Ect Ect
