Cycling Oil in new Challenger???
Hi all,
This is my first hemi 2013 5.7 RT, and I have heard from several people that I should change out the oil every 1000 miles for the first 3,000 miles to help break in the engine. Something to do helping the engine last longer as it breaks in.
Anyone ever heard of this before???
Called one dealer and they said not necessary.
You thoughts are appreciated..

Changing the oil every 1,000 miles even during break-in is just plain ridiculous. Every car my family has ever owned as had at least a 3,000 mile oil change and all but a crummy Vega has lasted at least 100K easily. Oil these days is light years ahead of what it used to be. Some people change there's at 5,000 or more (I personally don't agree with doing that), and seem to get along okay. 3,000 miles is plenty safe and a wise interval. 1,000 is being wasteful.

Modern engines don't really require a "Break-in" period like they used to!! Rings are seated with a few trips up and down the bores and if the bearings are clearances properly all should be well and you should simply drive it like you wish!!
The first few oil changes will remove any debris from manufacturing and my rule of thumb is Mobil I 5W30 and filter every 5,000 miles...easy to remember and I currently have 140,000 on my '04 RAM 1500 HEMI and 251,000 miles on my '04 Marauder engine with a ProCharger....no complaints!!
Good Luck!!
