Default No power in 2005 dakota

I bought a 2000 4.7L when it was new and loved it, mostly because of the power pulling my 16' aluminum boat. I recently bought a 2005 4.7L and so far have been very disapointed in the amount of power. There is no comparison between the two trucks. I have to gun it to get the 2005 to downshift and get up hills on the freeway, and have not even tried to pass anyone. I don't think I ever had my 2000 half gunned and it still really takes off. I use the towing setting when pulling my boat, but that doesn't help much. The trucks have basically the same HP and torque, is this something with the 2005 transmission compared to the 2000? I still have the 2000 and when i drive it you can really tell the difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not sure when it was last tuned up, but i'd be surprised if new plugs, etc. would make up for the huge difference.

thanks in advance for any ideas.
