Default Transmission issues!!!

So, my 2009 Journey threw a code at me tonight:

P0706 "Transmission range sensor circuit range/performance."

I looked this up and it doesn't specifically say that the range sensor is particularly bad, but I'm worried starting to worry about it overall. One site suggested (to someone else) that the code should just be cleared and see if it comes back.

Any other suggestions?

That would be the thing to do if you are reluctant to have it checked out.

I mean, the transmission appears to be functioning properly (shifts in and out of gears just fine), it's just the DTC in the computer. How serious of an issue is this?

When the code P0706 is set in the Powertrain Computer, it means that the Powertrain Computer or PCM is not seeing a clear, rational change in the data sent from the Transmission Range Sensor, especially after the vehicle is in motion. For example, say the vehicle is going 25 mph, as reported by the vehicle speed sensor, but the Range Sensor is reporting that the transmission is still in park. This is an irrational (or impossible) condition, that is, how could the vehicle be going 25 mph and be in park?

Common Problems That Trigger the P0706 Code
  • Defective Transmission Range Sensor (PRNDL input)
  • Defective Transmission Range Sensor (PRNDL input) wiring or connector
  • Defective Valve Body
  • Defective manual shift valve linkage
  • Dirty transmission fluid that restricts the hydraulic passages

Try clearing the code first. If it comes back, time to start checking the items mentioned above.

Question 2011 transmissin dropping to lower gear while driving

Hi,
First time member here,
My 2011 RT AWD will drop into a lower gear while driving on the highway.
I first noticed this while in cruise and could clear it by pulling over, shutting off and the starting up again. but it will do it again within 5 minutes.
I then tried it the next time out, just in drive, and never had a problem for a week.
Just yesterday though, it happened in Drive, n Highway 11, in heavy cottage traffic. I had to drive about a kilometer in what seemed like 1st gear, at 6000RPMs before I could pull off, shut down and start up again.

It kept doing it and I found some other ways to clear the issue, but it keeps on happening. One way is, when it clunks and changes to 1st( I assuming it is 1st)
the revs will go up and if I give it throttle, you can feel it is in the wrong gear. But if I back off the throttle, the revs will drop to 1500, and it seems to get back into the right gear sequence again.

It ran fine for the last 70k as I stayed under 100KPH.
Any thoughts on this issue?

Mike

I recommend a full diagnostic of your transmission by a specialist equipped to deal with transmission issues.
