Default Help with Serpentine Belt Tensioner

I was wondering if anyone has any information on the Serpentine belt tensioners used on the 2.4L DOHC engines. It looks like in 2003 they switched to a new style.

I have a 2002 Dodge Stratus Sedan 2.4L and the Serpentine belt tensioner is bent and throwing the belt off. Does anyone know if it's possible to bolt the newer 2003+ tensioner to a 2002 engine? The new design is much more simple and is only $70 compared to $122 for the one I have now. Thanks.

They have the tensioner for the 2002 2.4L DOHC on Rock Auto for $69. Looks like the 2003 is completely different from the 2002, so not sure you could make it work. 2002 has some sort of shock absorber thing attached to it.

Good find, I'll probably go that route then. The old design of the tensioner looks much more failure prone and flimsy than the new simple design but it as long as I can get a fair price on it I'll use it. Thanks again.

No problem. Rock auto is the bomb. Be sure to use the DF 5% discount.

My 05's works perfect but the bearings have been complaining almost a year.

I have 170k on the odometer and will just do a boneyard takeoff on a lower
mileage unit that the timing belt let go in and it got junked. lol

Cheeeeeeeeap
