Default 4X2 TO 4X4 CONVERSION

ok, getting sick of my 2wd and need 4wd, i don't want to trade it in for a new one or buy a used one thats a 4x4 i want to convert the truck I have now, I have a 2004 QC Hemi short box and I need to know what all i need to make it a 4x4 i heard you can take the whole front diff. assembly and it will bolt up to the 4x2, but I don't kn ow what to do about the transmission, there are so many different codes and manual shift and electronic, I don't know what they are talking about, can I just get the transfer case and that adaptor or do I have to replace the whole transmission?

I'm not totaly good with this buti i belive you need to go find a Soild front axel that was off a 4x4 and u need to pick up a trasnfer case. Drill a shaft for the 4x4 rod brake lines everything. All i have to say it u will send WAY more making it a 4x4 then if u trade it in.

Actually all you have to do is find a wrecked dodge like your year model and basically swap out everything on the wrecked Dodge's front; as in all of the steering components, etc and replace them on yours. If you work on it all day, you could finish it in a weekend. This is what I am plannin on doin to my Dodge. It beats havin to put it in the shop and payin way too much for it...

Ya if you could find a wrecked 4x4 and swap parts. Or even easyer swap frames. Thats what I did. I just bought a rollover. The body was shot but frame perfect. I swaped the frame keeped my body and engine. It took me a weekend to do it. The body mounts location should be the same. It bets buying a new 4x4.

It cost me $1,100 for the entire truck complete execpt for the engine. I had a better one a 5.9 than the stock 5.2. That was everything From tranny transfercase (which were rebuilt 200miles beforeit waswrecked!)everything! I even took the seatbelts and other stupid things. I thought might as well, one day mine will go out! The best part was the junkyard came and picked up my scrap frame and the bad body and bed when I was done. All trash when I was done with it. This is the best thing I did to my truck! The 5.9 is close but 4x4 justis better. Just add another 100 or so for fuilds and another 300 to upgrade the front axle to 3.9 gears to match the rear. So When all done it came out to $1,500 or so! That sure beats $5,000 and upfor another truck!

Not sure how difficult it is on a full sized truck... But back in high school my friend wanted to convert his 2wd jeep charokee to 4wd. it took him 2 days in shop class. The wrecked jeep even had a 5.5" lift kit. so he threw that on there too. he said it was fairly easy to do. and he bought the wrecked jeep for only $75. plus the cost of new rancho shocks all around. Not bad i would say. Good luck with your build
