2020 Supra + Hellcat Engine = Insane Hybrid Build Render

By -

There are few things that will make a Toyota purist more upset than putting a Hellcat Hemi in a 2020 Supra.

You’ve seen the news, you’ve heard the hype, you have skipped over dozens of social media posts all about one thing: the 2020 Toyota Supra. Why is this car so important and why do so many people seem to care about it? Well, the car definitely has some lineage and a very loyal and determined fan base. When this fan base heard that their legendary 2JZ straight-six turbo engine wasn’t seeing a revival for the new Supra and instead that the car was being produced in collaboration with BMW, most Toyota loyalists lost their minds. I get it, you like a brand, you want the brand to the build the engine for its iconic sports car. What Toyota fans didn’t seem to realize is that the brand hadn’t built a straight-six or honestly any performance-based engine in well over a decade. They lacked the experience and the infrastructure, thus, you turn to somebody that turned the engine platform to their bread and butter: BMW.

While Toyota fans might still be upset that BMW is the only company capable of making a straight-six for a performance application in modern times, we found something that might make them even a little bit more mad than that. If you consider the fact that BMW at least kept the Supra in its original iconic configuration of a 3.0-liter straight-six turbo, they were respectful of the lineage. But, we think something a little bit more spicy might suit it a little bit better (sorry, not sorry). This would definitely be a supercharged V8. Thankfully, Dodge kind of made one of the most badass versions of this setup and they sell it as a crate engine. It happens to be called the 6.2-liter Hellcat Engine and it makes 700-plus HP without breaking a sweat. Thanks to Instagram automotive concept designer, Abimelec Arellano, we get to see just exactly what this engine would look like in a Supra.

Is this a render? Yes. Do we hope to see it become a reality soon? Also yes. We think that the supercharged HEMI definitely fits very nicely into the engine bay of the fifth-generation Supra. Will this be easy to accomplish? Without a doubt it will not be easy at all. Will that stop somebody who has the time and money? Not at all. With the simplified rear diffuser and quad tip exhaust, we think that the Supra would have a hell of a presence with a nice rumbly idle. What do you guys think of this Supra swap?
