All-Electric Ram 1500 Has a 500-Mile Range
Stellantis claims that the Ram 1500 REV, their contender in the all-electric pickup segment, has a 500 mile range.
Despite being fashionably late to the all-electric pickup meeting, Stellantis CEO made a serious claim that their Ram 1500 REV would surpass Ford’s F-150 Lightning, Chevy’s Silverado EV and the GMC Sierra EV in all categories. Now, Stellantis has leaked some information that puts some validity to those claims — first being that the Ram will be able to go for 500 miles on a single charge, thanks to the absolutely massive 2,983 lb 212.7 kWh battery pack.
With that range, the only electric pickup that could serve as a match for the Ram would be Tesla’s controversial Cybertruck, which is also said to have a 500 mile range. The F-150 Lightning’s range pales in comparison at only 320 miles with the extended range battery packs, and Chevy’s entry is at a little over 400 miles. GM’s Sierra, being the Silverado’s twin, can also go 400 miles.
As far as towing capacities go, the Ram 1500 will embarrass Ford, GM and Chevy with a 14,000 lb limit. Ford, GM and Chevy’s current capacities are a little over 10,000 lbs — leaving the Cybertruck to then again be the only real match for the Ram with the exact same figure. Though, GM claims that trucks are coming later that can tow a whopping 20,000 lbs.
The all-electric pickup segment is young, but an important way to get more Americans to invest in EVs — especially since trucks specifically accounted for 79.2% of 13.75 million vehicles sold in the U.S. Europe is already welcoming the demise of the internal combustion engine with open arms, but Americans are hesitant. Recognizing this, Stellantis CEO promises that they’ll also be developing a hybrid that will use a gasoline powered engine that will charge the battery as it drives.
Stellantis has a similar sentiment to most Americans, stating that they don’t think fully electric vehicles aren’t the final solution to global warming just yet. Though, it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
The Ram 1500 REV will be hitting the market later next year, making it a 2025 model year. It will be behind the Tesla Cybertruck if it doesn’t get delayed an additional time, but we’ll be ready to welcome it nonetheless.
