Bondurant Adds Dodge Demon & Drag Racing Program to Curriculum

Arizona’s Bob Bondurant School of High-Performance Driving invites speed demons to experience the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving has earned a reputation as one of the best track schools in the world, and for the past few years, the Arizona-based facility has relied almost entirely on Dodge SRT products. With the arrival of the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, Bondurant is expanding its program to include a new drag racing course specifically for Demon owners — but anyone can pay to learn to race the 840-horsepower Challenger.

“With the 840-horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, 707-horsepower Charger and Challenger Hellcats and the 475-horsepower Durango SRT, the Dodge//SRT brands deliver more horsepower than any other brand in our segment,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars, Dodge//SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “With great power comes responsibility, so we want our enthusiasts to respect the full capability of their machines. Our Dodge//SRT partnership with the highly acclaimed Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, which comes with the purchase of an SRT, gives our customers the opportunity to get the most out of their new vehicles in a controlled environment, as well as gives anyone interested in our performance cars the chance to get behind the wheel of one at the track. Where else can you drive a Demon without having to buy one?”

Bondurant and Dodge//SRT

If you have purchased a Dodge Challenger or Charger in SRT 392 or Hellcat trim in the past few years, you received a free pass for a one-day program at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. Once there, you learned how to pilot various high performance Dodge products on an autocross course, a road course and a skid pad. Also, in addition to the one free day, Dodge SRT owners can add more days, expanding on the depth of the program and greatly increasing their time on the track.

When the new Demon was introduced, Dodge was clear that the newest Challenger would also come with a trip to Bondurant, but does it make sense for someone who bought a drag car to attend a road racing school? No…and that is why Bondurant has worked with Dodge to add a drag racing program to their course of high performance studies.

Every 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon buyer gets a free pass to the one-day Bondurant drag racing program while other Dodge//SRT buyers (392, Hellcat) can upgrade their free one-day pass to a two-day program that includes a day or road racing and a day of drag racing for $999. Even people who haven’t bought any new Dodge//SRT product can attend for the price of $1,999.

Bondurant Drag Racing Program

The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving drag racing program begins with a couple of hours in the classroom, where students learn all of the ins and outs of drag racing. Once they have a firm grasp of the straight-line motorsport, they had out to the quarter mile where they will make a total of 22 runs in a few different Dodge Challengers. While the star of the show is the Demon, students will also spend time in the SRT 392, the SRT Hellcat and the new Widebody Hellcat before climbing into the 840-horsepower Challenger.

Bondurant Demon Burnout

“We’re thrilled to team up with Dodge on this exciting new Drag Racing program, featuring the wicked fast Dodge Challenger SRT Demon,” said Jason Bondurant, vice president of Bondurant Racing School. “Our course will be led by our professional instructors who will give students the chance to experience first-hand the impressive capabilities of this audacious production drag car. It is especially fitting that we’re launching this new course at the start of our Golden 50th Anniversary. It amplifies the message that the Bondurant Racing School is continuing to evolve and looks forward to the next 50 years of adrenaline-filled motorsports action.”

How to Register

Pre-registration for the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving drag racing program opens today (Jan. 12th) with the first classes being scheduled for early March. Demon owners can schedule their session through the Demon Concierge line while other Dodge//SRT owners and everyone else can sign up via the Bondurant website.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
