Challenger Sees Easy Horsepower Gains With Pre-configured Tune
For less than $400 and a few minutes time, your Challenger can pick up as much as 13 horsepower and 18 lb-ft of torque.
For the most part, the cars you see featured across the web are the ones that have an incredible amount of money and time invested in them. You know, the ones running crazy low e.t.s at the track and garnering all the magazine features. But the vast majority of us both want and need something a little more reasonable. Something we can drive reliably on a daily basis, yet enjoy more power than stock. And for those folks who happen to own a newer Dodge Challenger, there are several ways to do that. Including a simple preloaded tune, as demonstrated in this informative video from American Muscle.
This particular clip focuses on the Diablosport inTune i3 Tuner and what it can do for the 2009-2014 Challenger equipped with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8. And right off the bat, it certainly sounds like something that provides great bang for your buck. “The Diablosport comes with a number of pre-loaded tunes such as 87, 91, and 93 octane,” our host notes. “But it also has the ability to store and use up to 10 custom tunes.” This obviously makes the tuner attractive for those wishing to start out small and get a custom tune later on down the road.
“If you think maybe in the future you’ll want to upgrade to a custom tune more specific to your vehicle to maximize potential of any bolt-on mods you have, whether it be mildly modified, heavily modified, or even bone stock, it can net better gains,” AM notes. The Diablosport can also act as a code reader and data logger, and even has built-in Wi-Fi. Which is great since you won’t need your computer to receive updates.
This is all great, of course. But Challenger owners care more about what sort of power gains they’ll get from a preloaded tune. And the answer is, well, pretty solid. In this case, AM’s bone stock 2013 Challenger enjoyed peak gains of 11 horsepower and 17 lb-ft of torque on a 93 tune. Along the power curve, those numbers increased to up to 13 hp and 18 lb-ft. For around $400 and a few minutes of time, that’s pretty impressive.
If you’re looking to start small and leave room for future mods, the Diablosport tuner seems like a great way to go. It offers solid power gains now, and the capability of much more whenever you’re ready. And for modern Challenger owners on a budget, that’s a pretty irresistible proposition.
