Chrysler 300C Has One Last Hurrah With SRT Power

300c

We haven’t had a hot Chrysler 300C in a few years. But the last model year of the 300 will have 485 ponies to send it off into the muscle car sunset.

The elephant in the room is having one heck of a party right now. While electric vehicles pose an imminent take over, internal combustion engines are all the rage right now. Chrysler is the latest proof, with the 300C getting essentially an SRT package. But it won’t be called an SRT. Just 300C. But that’s all in the name. Instead, it’s what is under the hood that counts.

Displacing 6.4 liters, and sending power to the rear wheels, the SRT credentials are certainly there. It’s also going to end up being faster than the old 300C SRT Not by a lot, but by enough. Fifteen extra horsepower are squeezed out of the 6.4, with 485 in total. But there’s also an 8 speed automatic gearbox that’s now familiar to many Dodge fans. It assists the sprint to 60 mph a full half second quicker, taking 4.3 seconds.

In opposition to Dodge’s over-the-top styling, the Chrysler 300C has rather understated styling. Hood scoops, vents and louvers are not found here. Not even the loud colors. Autoblog says the interior will be black leather with silver stitching. Simple, understated, and one final hurrah. Black rims and other black accents throughout also speak to the understated performance. And for those who like the 300C, that’s what this car always had that the Dodge equivalents couldn’t offer (because they chose not to). The 300C has that element of class. A suit and tie on a luchador. It could do things no other car that looked like it could do. And it isn’t really expected.

Thankfully the design of the 300 has stood the test of time. The LD chassis has been in production for eleven years now, and has been around since the Diamler-Chrysler days. So it was time for a change anyway. Given that MOPAR has gone crazy with Hellcat powered everything, we’re a bit surprised there’s not a “FirePower” edition that would adopt the Hellcat motor and still recall a great engine name from the past. But who knows, maybe we will see a Chrysler 300 with 707 horses. In the meantime, expect this 300C as a limited edition 2023 model.
