YouTuber Wows the Crowd In a Hellcat-powered Miata

Everyone knows Cleetus McFarland is a big Chevy head, but this latest stint might just get him off of his GM kick and get him into Mopar.

If you’re a fan of Cleetus McFarland, you know that he’s a big GM fan. Between his street-legal Corvettes, Leroy, his 1,000-plus horsepower C5-based drag kart, and his jet-powered El Camino, you might think that he bleeds GM blue. But not so fast; Cleetus has shown in the past that he’s got all kinds of love for Mopar’s fastest. In the past, he’s flogged a Viper ACR and a Demon, and was smitten with both of them. But his latest Mopar dalliance is a little odd – and very Cleetus.

In this recent video posted on the Florida Car Culture YouTube channel, Cleetus goes drifting in a Miata. A Hellcat-powered Miata.

As the video starts, the second-generation Miata is spinning like crazy in front of a huge crowd at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Then, as a huge cloud of tire smoke passes, the man himself walks up and gets behind the wheel. “This is gonna go one of two ways,” the announcer says. “The tires are gonna pop or the motor is gonna pop.”

So how does the guy that’s used to some of the craziest cars on the internet handle it? Well, he drives that damn thing until the engine can’t stand it any longer. Cleetus hangs his big frame out of the car, waving, pointing, flashing the horns. He drifts in and out of tire (and later, engine) smoke, and the crowd eats it up.

Sadly, the Hellcat engine gives up the ghost pretty quickly, and with no real information on what happened, we can’t say whether or not it will live to drift another day. But we love the idea of Hellcatting a Miata, and we sure hope that this one gets well soon.

As for Cleetus, we hope that a build like this – one that’s crazy enough for him to appreciate – might just get him off of his GM kick for a minute and get him into Mopars. We’d love to see what kind of insanity he might come up with if you gave him something offbeat and a couple of Hellcrate motors.
