Red-over-burgundy 1966 Coronet 500 packs a heavy-handed vintage punch with its all-original 426 Hemi under the long hood.

Today, you can get Hemi power under the hood of a handful of Dodges and Rams, but only one, the Charger, fits the role of a muscle family car. Go back a few decades, though, and you’ll find all sorts of two- and four-door family cars that came with the famed big block.

One such car is up for sale in Daytona Beach (not far from where the 426 Hemi made its world debut back in 1964), a lovely red-over-burgundy 1966 Coronet 500 equipped with the street version of the legend.

The Coronet 500 is a clean, rust-free example that retains its original sound-deadening coating under the car, as well as its H-pipe exhaust system and original mufflers. The shocks are fresh, as is the driveshaft connecting the rear to the beast under the hood.

This orange-painted 426 Hemi has a pair of four-barrel carbs under the air cleaner, and is paired with a three-speed 727 TorqueFlite automatic to deliver over 425 horses to rear set of red steelies with chrome hubcaps.

Inside, the Coronet 500’s burgundy interior greets you with a pair of front buckets and a big steering wheel, plus plenty of room for your family to experience the raw power of the Hemi 426 motor.

The Coronet 500 is also a rare ride, as only 136 were equipped with a 426 Hemi in 1966. No doubt that who ever buys this family duty muscle car will have quite the centerpiece in their garage.
