Dodge Charger Smyth Ute Conversion Available for Purchase

Dodge Charger has been transformed from a four-door sedan to a two-door pickup with Hemi power.
Back in 2019, we looked at the Smyth Ute conversion package for the modern Dodge Charger sedan. It literally converts the four-door sedan into a two-door compact pickup, complete with a roomy cargo box. The kit with all of the parts costs around $4,000, but there is obviously lots of labor involved. You have to basically cut the Charger in half, so this project is not for the mechanically inexperienced, and paying someone to do the work can be costly and time consuming.
If you would love to have a Dodge Charger pickup, but you don’t have the mechanical ability or a shop that you trust enough to bring a Smyth ute to life on your own, you are in luck. We found one on Bring-A-Trailer with a current high bid of $7,777, presenting a rare change to buy one of these custom pickup cars.

Smyth Charger Ute
The Smyth Ute kit for the Dodge Charger includes fiberglass bedsides and rear window/roof assembly, a steel tailgate, aluminum underpinnings and Grand Caravan tail lights. To mount the kit on the Charger sedan, you have to begin by cutting away everything down to the bare chassis, from the rear of the front doors to the back bumper.
Once all of the bodywork and rear interior bits are removed, the aluminum ute box chassis affixes to the Charger chassis, the fiberglass roof cap and rear window assembly seal off the cabin and the fiberglass body panels work with the steel tailgate to complete the pickup box.

Of course, in addition to the truck bed, the Dodge Charger with a Smyth Ute conversion kit retains the factory dashboard and fronting area, so while you trade the rear seat for a truck bed, you have a roomy area for the driver and one passenger.

We don’t know for sure, but we imagine that the Smyth Ute conversion components likely weigh a bit less than the factory Charger parts. Figure that the Charger has all steel body work and steel under-structure, with a large glass rear window and more glass in the rear doors. The skin of this Charger ute is mostly fiberglass and the underpinnings are aluminum, so we wonder if this custom Dodge has a little less weight out back. If so, this Hemi-powered pickup is likely a great burnout machine.

Bid on One Today
The person selling this 2006 Dodge Charger R/T Smyth Ute bought the car as a stock sedan in 2018 and had it converted into the pickup that we see here. It has over 68,000 miles on the odometer, but only about 300 of those have been added by the current owner. The car is finished in fresh metallic black paint with a set of chrome Hellcat replica over orange-painted factory brake calipers.

This Charger is powered by the stock 5.7-liter Hemi with 340 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent to the rear wheels by means of the original 5-speed automatic transmission. The stance is provided by a set of Eibach lowering springs and Koni dampers, which should also help this slick little pickup scoot through the corners.

If you want a clean Dodge Charger with the Smyth Ute conversion kit, this is probably your best chance to get one without commissioning a build yourself.
