Dodge Charger Thief Tries to Evade Police by Moonlighting as Walmart Employee
Following a 45 minute chase, the driver of the Dodge Challenger came up with a clever way to try and escape.
Criminals typically aren’t known to be the smartest folks out there, because, well, if they were, they could probably find a more appropriate profession – not one that typically lands them in jail. However, there are a few smart ones out there, not to mention a few that come up with clever ways to avoid being caught. We’re not 100 percent sure that’s the case with a Dodge Charger thief that went to great lengths to avoid being captured by the Michigan State Police Aviation unit in Metro Detroit recently, but at least they came up with a pretty unique way to prevent that from happening.
According to MSP, their air unit was patrolling the skies when they spotted the Dodge Charger driving “recklessly at a high rate of speed” across the variety of roads, at which point they requested ground support. When a police officer attempted to pull the Charger over, the driver opted to flee, leading to a rather long chase that lasted roughly 45 minutes.
Eventually, the Dodge Charger driver got a bit tired of the chase and decided to try and do something we’ve personally never seen before – dip inside of a Walmart and pretend to be an employee at the store. In fact, police found him in the stockroom in the rear of the store, but when they identified him, he once again took off, but to no avail – they wound up nabbing the clever thief near the front of the giant box retailer and took him into custody.

But while the way the thief tried to evade police was pretty clever in this case, shockingly, his behavior is becoming more and more common in the Detroit area, it seems. “This suspect pretty much checked all the boxes for what we have been seeing lately,” Michigan State Police Public Information Officer Lt Mike Shaw told The Detroit News. “Reckless driving, failing to stop for police, and having a stolen car. You can’t outrun a helicopter, so now he is in jail.”
