Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat 7.90

Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat owned, tuned and driven by Zdung Ho ran a 7.90 at 175 miles per hour.

A stock Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat with drag radial tires is capable of running a mid-10-second quarter mile time in normal conditions. With some aftermarket upgrades and tuning, the supercharged sedan can quickly scoot into the 9-second range. For Zdung Ho, running in the 9s came too easily, so he worked his way down into the 8s, becoming the first to do so. However, he didn’t settle for being the first 8-second Hellcat Charger, continuing to modify his super-sedan in an effort to be the first Hellcat sedan to run in the 7-second range.

On April 25, 2021, the mastermind behind the company ZHTunes took his Go Mango sedan to Houston Raceway Park and history was made, as Ho became the first Hellcat Charger to run in the 7-second range. In short, the quickest Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat in the world was the first in the 8s and now the first in the 7s, with the latest record run being captured on film.

A stock Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat has a 6.2-liter Hemi topped by a 2.4-liter IHI supercharger. When Zdung Ho first broke into the 8-second range, he was running a 7-liter, 426-cubic inch Hemi topped by a 4.5-liter Whipple supercharger. This time, the engine is a bit bigger, measuring 441 cubic inches, or 7.2 liters, with the same big Whipple on top.

The car also features a Fore triple pump fuel system and ID2150 injectors, with the entire system being tuned by Zdung Ho himself.

Putting the power to the ground is a set of High Horse Performance/Bogart 15″ beadlock wheels wrapped in 315/60 Mickey Thompson pro radials.

First Run in the 7s

The video below shows Zdung Ho making the first ever 7-second quarter mile pass in a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. On April 25 at just after midnight, this Go Mango monster set the bar for all Hellcat sedans, running a 7.908 at 175.55 miles per hour. On that run, the full-sized sedan pulled a 1.192 60-foot time, getting to the 8th mile marker in just 5.107 seconds at 138.97 miles per hour.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
