Hellcat Charger Throws Down With Hellish Turbo SRT8 Jeep

By -

If you haven’t seen how serious early morning street drag racing is in Southern California, you will now.

Southern California is a strange place with a lot to offer. Almost anything can be found in a 50-mile radius from Los Angeles and the underground world of late night/early morning street racing is no exception. Dodge Forum doesn’t condone street racing, but if you live down in SoCal, this run-of-the-mill Hellcat/Jeep race likely happened somewhere near your neighborhood. As with any racing, tensions can run high and things can get crazy in the blink of an eye. This video by Valley Racing shows us that times haven’t changed.

For those not in the know or not local to the area, L.A. County has been home to street racing for many years now. With people building custom dig cars just to show up and race there. Due to many industrial cities in the area, it serves as an ideal breeding ground this type of activity. These races are known to go on until the early hours of the morning on almost everyday of the week.

SRT8 JEEP V. HELLCAT CHARGER DRAG RACE

We know some details about the race, it’s a Charger Hellcat with Hoosier drag radials up against a turbocharged SRT8 Jeep. We don’t know the modifications either of these cars have, but seeing the way they gripped off the line, we know these cars are prepped for this purpose. Interestingly, the Jeep begins with a predetermined one car-length handicap and loses by almost exactly one car length as well. He probably shouldn’t have given the Hellcat that advantage and I’m sure the owner of the Jeep will be hurting as a result. There were so many camera angles to watch this race from, you might have thought it was a feature film.

How these racers have continued for this long without police literally closing the road down, we don’t know, especially with the recent increase in strictness with legislation. In California, you can get six months jail time and $1,000.00 dollar fine for just for being within 200 feet of any of these types of events. We wont get started on what happens if you are one of the active participants. But against all odds, the drama and the speed continue.

Before the race, you can see the track surface being prepped with drag-racing specific adhesive, probably TrackBite. In L.A., street racing is taken more serious than you might believe.
