Hemi Ram Rumble Bee Does 11-second Track Run

By -

This Rumble Bee was the first to run a stroked modern Hemi, with even more added power from a supercharger.

Today, we present to you at the first Ram 1500 pickup to run a modern Hemi with a stroker kit from the ramcrazy1965 YouTube channel. This truck is modified in many ways, making it a monster performance vehicle while still looking like your average third-gen Rumble Bee.

Jerry Williams’ Rumble Bee

The Dodge Ram 1500 Rumble Bee shown in the video above is owned by Jerry Williams. The truck doesn’t look like a wicked track vehicle, with a stock-looking body and a set of factory wheels from a different model, but as soon as it leaves the starting line – it is clear that this is not your average Dodge pickup.

We reached out to Williams for more information on his high performance Ram Rumble Bee and he provided the following details.

  • 6.1 block, offset ground 6.1 crank with Eagle SB Chevy rod journals and .927 pin
  • Full sump dish, full skirt Ross pistons
  • Early hand ported 5.7 heads with 2.08-inch int and 1.62-inch exh valves
  • XV intake manifold
  • FRI cam
  • Paxton NOVI 1500 pushing 18 psi of boost with Snow Performance w/m kit on pump 91 octane fuel
  • Non-intercooled, just 22 inches of piping from the blower to the throttle body
  • 3800 Edge Racing converter and my own built 545RFE transmission.
  • 3.92 gears
  • M&H Race Master drag radials on all four corners

Williams runs his truck in four-wheel-drive high gear, allowing him to 60-foot times in the high 1.4-second range – which is really getting out of the hole in a hurry with a full-weight half-ton Dodge Ram 1500.

Moment of Truth: the 11.0 Run

In the video above, Williams’ Ram Rumble Bee is making a quarter-mile pass against what looks to be a 1973 Dodge Dart Sport. After a big, beautiful burnout, the bright yellow Dodge truck eases to the line with the yellow A-body.

The Dart appears to get out to an early lead, but the big Ram quickly closes the gap. We don’t see what the car ran, but the truck laid down an 11.03 at 118 miles per hour – a run that was backed up with a later 11.05.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
