Hennessey Mammoth 1200 Ram TRX vs Ford GT

Though it makes double the power, the Hennessey Mammoth 1200 Ram TRX weighs nearly twice as much as a Ford GT, but that doesn’t matter here.

Hennessey Performance has been cranking out high-performance versions of all sorts of vehicles over the years, and we aren’t just talking about sports and muscle cars, either. Rather, the Texas-based tuner also offers an array of high-power SUVs and pickups, with a more powerful version of the Ram TRX in that lineup. Dubbed the “Mammoth,” this fortified TRX can be had in multiple guises, with the most extreme being the Hennessey Mammoth 1200 Ram TRX, a wild machine that cranks out 1,200 horsepower, giving it supercar-beating performance, in fact.

We know this thanks to a recent video from the tuner showing a rather interesting drag race between its Hennessey Mammoth 1200 Ram TRX and a Ford GT. This isn’t just any Ford GT, however, but rather, one owned by mega-famous YouTuber Shmee150, though it is stock, at least. However, a stock Ford GT is plenty to contend with, due to its fortified, twin turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 making 647 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque in this guise.

That means that the Hennessey Mammoth 1200 Ram TRX makes roughly twice the power that the GT does, of course, but a bigger issue may be how much it weighs. The enhanced off-roader tips the scales at a whopping 6,500 pounds, while the GT weighs a far more svelte 3,500, which could make a big difference in a straight line, even if the TRX has a traction advantage thanks to its four-wheel drive layout. The GT, on the other hand, must find traction with only the rear wheels.

This is an intriguing drag race on paper, but once the two vehicles actually line up to race, it’s actually not really even close. In fact, the TRX leaps off the line in dramatic fashion in the first showdown, leaving everyone in utter shock – including Shmee – who can’t believe how quick it is. He gets his revenge in round two as the sports car claims a victory, and also wins a roll race, but the TRX takes home a relatively easy win in the fourth and decisive dig race – proving that sometimes, horsepower is indeed king.
