McLaren Tuned A Viper Back In the Day? Say What?!

One-of-one Dodge Viper with the McLaren touch was built for the Detroit Auto Show and just brought a hefty hammer price at auction.

Typically, when you see the words “Dodge Viper” and “McLaren” in the same sentence, it’s because it’s the title of some crazy street racing video or a high-speed top run compilation at a standing mile drag competition. The last thing that comes to mind would be a collaboration between the two iconic brands. However, the McLaren Viper is indeed a real thing. However, there’s only one of them. Unfortunately, if that tickles your fancy, you just missed the opportunity to buy.

The 2006 Dodge Viper ASC McLaren Diamondback just sold for a whopping $166,777 on Bring A Trailer. However, take the exclusivity of having a one-of-one collaboration show car into consideration. That number starts to seem pretty dang reasonable, right? Let’s take a look at the McLaren Diamondback Viper and see what makes it stand out from a standard 2006 Viper!

Velocity Stacks to Make You Drool!

The most obvious and outstanding portion of this Viper is undoubtedly the engine bay. The aluminum individual throttle bodies with upward-jutting polished velocity stacks draw your eyes in immediately. It’s not hard, either, considering there’s a fitted cutout in the hood just to show them off. However, as your eyes move down to the valve covers, you’ll take in that “powered by McLaren” badge.” We’re sure you’re familiar. However, if you aren’t, here’s a little hint for you: McLaren isn’t exactly associated with slow cars that are down on power.

Certainly, this is no exception. According to the Bring A Trailer ad, McLaren claims this engine makes 615 horsepower. That’s a whopping 100 extra horsepower over a standard Viper. Of course, as is standard, the power rips through a six-speed manual transmission on its way to the rear wheels. In addition, the screaming 600 horsepower V10 is made loud and proud thanks to a titanium exhaust system.

That’s all well and good. However, McLaren wasn’t the only company outside of Dodge to get their hands on this particular Viper. That “ASC” in the name isn’t just a fun acronym to throw around. It stands for American Specialty Cars, a company that makes killer carbon fiber body components.

Carbon Fiber Bodywork Throughout This Viper Is Stunning

The vented hood, front splitter, revised roof panel, side vents, rocker panels, and rear fascia with an integrated spoiler are all carbon fiber components courtesy of ASC. Though some parts are covered in the Artic Ice Pearl paint, there’s still plenty of bare carbon eye candy to take in.

In addition, the car has upgraded suspension components, a limited-slip differential, and rides on a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels. Make no mistake, this thing is a weapon on the road! Inside, the car has a set of Willans four-point racing harnesses accenting the McLaren Orange and Viper Blue accent paint. So, if the new owner should decide to take it on the track, they’ll be locked in and ready to tear up some corners. It also has an external kill switch on the trunk, so it’s really racecar ready!

Overall, getting a chance to take a close-up look at a one-of-one build like this is a pretty rare opportunity. Hopefully, the new owner enjoys their new ride and takes it out for the occasional track day where it really belongs!
