We expected that we would have to wait until the beginning of the Chicago Auto Show next week to find out more details on the upcoming Mopar 13 but thanks to the Dodge of Canada official website – we know now that this new Mopar branded vehicle is indeed a 2013 Dodge Dart.

The Mopar 13 package appears on the Dodge of Canada site as an option package for the 2013 Dodge Dart Limited and surprisingly – this package is currently available with either the 2.0L Tigershark base engine or the more power and more efficient 1.4L turbo 4. The website also lists the Mopar 13 package as being available with either a manual transmission, a traditional automatic (for the 2.0L models) or the new dual dry clutch transmission that is mated to the turbo motor.  Most intriguingly, the Mopar 13 package is listed as a no-charge option for the Dart Limited which – unfortunately – shows that the information might not be 100% correct. I mean, there is a chance that the Mopar 13 package could be a free option for the Dart Limited but I suspect that it will carry some charge; even if only a small amount.

The Mopar 13 follows the design scheme of the previous Mopar branded, limited edition vehicles and that begins with the special 2013 Dodge Dart Limited being painted pitch black with gloss black 18″ aluminum wheels wrapped in all season performance tires.Next, Mopar adds a fully blacked out grille with a matching grille surround, black headlight trim, black door handles, a black Mopar front chin spoiler, a black Mopar rear lip spoiler and black Mopar mud flaps.Once all of that black is applied, Mopar adds some sort of blue stripe package that runs across the hood, roof and trunklid along with Mopar blue brake calipers and chrome Mopar badges. Finally, HID headlights are added as part of the package to give the Mopar 13 that high tech look while also providing great night driving visibility.

On the inside, the Mopar 13 Dodge Dart sports a black shift console with leather padding on the side and blue accent stitching, black chrome bezels around the climate control panel and around the gorgeous 8.4″ infotainment screen, Mopar embroidered floormats, a Mopar shift knob, Mopar stainless steel door sill guards, a Mopar wireless charging pad and tons more gloss black trim around the interior. The Mopar 13 also comes with all of the high end features that are standard on the Dart Limited like the 7″ thin film transistor (TFT) gauge cluster, a premium sound and navigation system, power everything, etc.

Finally, the Mopar 13 gets a little more attitude and performance from a Mopar performance exhaust system that should add some power while also giving the blacked out Dart sedan more “bark”.The Canadian Dodge website also discusses a sport suspension system that includes unique shocks, springs, bushings and stabilizer bars but this suspension package is listed in what I would call the “fine print” area – it is not listed in the full list of features of the Mopar 13 package. This means that Dodge could simply be talking about the suspension system used with the Dart Limited or there might actually be a performance suspension kit applied to the Mopar 13 Dart.

The 2013 Chicago Auto Show is set to open to the media on February 7th so in just over a week, we should have all of the details on the newest Mopar branded special edition Dodge vehicle.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
