2022 Roadkill Nights Grudge Race

Seventh installment of the Roadkill Nights Grudge Race brings street-legal drag racing to Woodward Avenue.

The world of automotive influencers has grown exponentially in recent years as social media platforms like YouTube have given birth to a new generation of enthusiasts. Some of these folks actually do some very cool things like build cars from scratch and race them, of course, while others are little more than clickbait artists and people willing to do silly things for clicks. Regardless, the upcoming Roadkill Nights Grudge Race aims to sort through nine of these influencers and see who has the chops to build a car using Dodge Direct Connection parts and then line up for a drag race at Detroit’s legendary Woodward Avenue.

This particular event has been going on for some time now, but the seventh annual Roadkill Nights Grudge Race aims to up the ante a bit. “The Grudge Match was a hit last year, so we’re bringing it back to Roadkill Nights. But this time, we’re giving competitors Direct Connection parts to use as building blocks in assembling their race cars,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer – Stellantis.

Last year, drag racer, mechanic, and automotive content creator Alex Taylor took home the win, and will return to defend her title against returning favorites Freddy “Tavarish” Hernandez, Westen Champlin, and Mickey Andrade, Rickie Fernandez, and Quinn Clark of throtl, plus five new additions to the cast – Christina Roki, Herman “Demonology” Young, Tony “Corruptt Builds” Arme, Collete Davis, and David Patterson, otherwise known as “ThatDudeInBlue.”

“It’ll be fun to see if Alex can defend her crown against a mix of returning racers and new blood,” Kuniskis said. “Last year, everyone learned that getting traction is the key to street racing on Woodward Avenue. So this year, we’re upping the ante. All competitors will be running a Direct Connection crate engine that they can modify however they want, but they will all have the added challenge of competing with a Direct Connection six-speed manual transmission.”

In this latest installment of the Roadkill Nights Grudge Match, competitors will use Direct Connection parts, including the Hellcrate Redeye 6.2L Supercharged Crate Hemi engine and a plug-and-play Hellcrate Redeye 6.2L Supercharged Crate Semi Engine Control Unit (ECU). Grudge Match builders will also have VIP access to the Direct Connection Tech hotline for technical questions.

Aside from catching all this hot drag racing action, attendees will also be able to enjoy a car show, interactive experiences, and thrill and drift rides in Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcats at the M1 Concourse. It all goes down on Saturday, August 13, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., while the drag racing starts at 11 a.m. The event can be viewed via livestream from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m across all of Dodge’s social media channels.
