Stolen white Dodge Challenger Destroyed in police chase after PIT maneuver

Thieves took this R/T Scat Pack right from the owner’s driveway at 4:30 AM and led police on a chase that totaled the stolen Challenger.

It seems that the count of stolen Challenger and Charger models is accelerating at an alarming rate. You’d think they wouldn’t be very easy to steal. However, there are countless videos of thieves smashing windows and firing up the howlin’ Hemis in a matter of seconds. Evidently, there is a way to clone the key fob and trick the car into believing the key is present. This ultimately serves as a reminder that no matter how hard you try, thieves will find a way. This story, though, also serves as a reminder that you can’t outrun the radio.

NBC Miami reports that this Challenger was stolen from the owner’s driveway at around 4:30 a.m. The owner provided footage showing a pair of men smashing the Challenger’s window, pushing it backward out of the driveway, and taking off seemingly without much effort. The thieves made off with the car for quite some time. However, around 12 hours after making off with the stolen Challenger, the thieves led police on a high-speed chase that came to a brutal end. Police performed a PIT maneuver, sending the R/T Scat Pack Challenger into someone’s yard and bringing the thieves’ joyride to an end.

No Injuries, but Plenty of Charges

Police said they found 21-year-old Kenneth Barahona and 40-year-old Edwin Figueroa with the stolen Challenger and, after searching the vehicle at the end of the pursuit, found a stolen gun inside the car. Fortunately, nobody was injured, and no property damage was done to any of the homes surrounding the pursuit.

It seems that neither of these criminals is new to the world of crime. Figueroa now faces that and resisting charges on top of his open cases, including one for Domestic Battery by Strangulation. Barahona received charges for fleeing from police and was linked to a handful of other crimes leading to charges for smashing windows and breaking into around 10 vehicles in June. He allegedly even broke into a police vehicle and stole a flashlight. Now that’s bold.

NBC Miami reports that courts granted both men bond.

Unfortunately, it looks like this Scat Pack Challenger is going to go down as yet another car destroyed by thieves. Keep a watchful eye on your cars, folks. No matter where you live, you may not be as safe from vehicle theft as you think. The last thing you want to wake up to is a pile of broken glass where your car used to be.
