The fastest Dodge Magnum in the world is owned and driven by Robert Lamb and in this video, we get to watch the boosted wagon set that incredible record time.
The Dodge Magnum has been out of production for almost a decade now and due to that demise in 2008, the Magnum is often the forgotten modern Mopar muscle car. The Magnum SRT8 is arguably one of the greatest American performance wagons of all time and it was most certainly the best performing modern wagon, sharing many of its key components with the Dodge Charger, the Dodge Challenger and the Chrysler 300C in their SRT8 forms.
When Robert Lamb got his Dodge Magnum, its 425hp Hemi made it one of the more powerful cars on the street, but that wasn’t enough for him. He wanted his Magnum to be a whole lot faster and he achieved that goal – transforming his Dodge wagon into an 8-second, street driven Mopar monster which still has all of the original luxuries including the leather seats and the sound system. In the video above, posted online by Gearhead Fabrications, Lamb’s Dodge Mangum runs an 8.63 quarter to set all sorts of records.
The heart of this record-setting Dodge Magnum is the 408 cubic inch Hemi, which is fitted with a pair of 67mm turbochargers. The power is sent to the wheels through an ATI TH400 transmission and a DriveShaft Shop 9” rear differential, and with the help of a set of sticky drag racing slicks, Lamb’s Magnum was the first ever to break into the 8-second quarter mile range.
However, he wasn’t done with just breaking into the 8s, as with continued tuning effort and seat time, Robert Lamb has reset his own record for the world’s fastest Dodge Magnum in the quarter mile – running an 8.62 at 160 miles per hour. That makes Lamb’s Magnum the world’s fastest Magnum, the world’s fastest full weight modern Mopar and the world’s fastest modern Mopar running an independent rear suspension setup.
"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.
"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.
