Slay Poupon

One part 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow with one part Hellcat crate engine is the recipe for a tire shredder named ‘Slay Poupon.’

There are certain things that you come to expect to see inside a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. A chauffeur driving around an older businessman. Yards of fine leather and wood. And of course, a bottle of Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard. What you do not expect to see inside a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is a Hellcat crate engine with a huge Magnuson Supercharger pumping out about 900 horsepower. But that is exactly what you will find in this extreme build done by the folks at Hoonigan. A car like this can only be called one thing: “Slay Poupon.” Which might be the best build name ever given to a car.

This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” is all about this 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow with a Hellcat heart. The car was built by the folks at Hoonigan, and they are no strangers to making big horsepower using Mopar power. If you know anything about Hoonigan, you know that this car was not built to be a museum show piece. This is a car that was built to be used and abused. A video detailing the entire build was recently posted on the Hoonigan YouTube channel as part of their ‘Build Biology’ series. Let’s get to know Slay Poupon a little bit better.

4-Door, 4-Seater, Hellcat-Powered Party Car

This car has many impressive components, but let’s be honest we are all here for the engine. The video starts with a look under the hood. Behold the 6.2L Hemi V8 from the Hellcat. But even that imprssive engine was not enough for the Hoonigan boys. They swapped out the stock super charger for a larger Magnuson unit.

This combination brings about 900 horsepower to the party. And all of the engine accessories that you see under the hood were custom built. Nothing from Crewe, England remains. There are three radiators in place to try to keep this beast cool during the abuse it is about to take. And in an homage to the Hellcat, the left headlight has a mesh screen to feed air into the engine. This is all connected to a stock Mopar clutch.

The Underneath

Supporting Slay Poupon is a custom Art Morrison chassis, with custom Hoonigan frame connecting it all together. The rear end is a Strange differential that is a direct bolt-in for a fifth generation Camaro. That is important because the rear end of this car is essentially a fifth generation Camaro. The exhaust was custom designed by Borla. Fun fact. Borla actually got their start by building exhaust systems for Rolls-Royce. The wheels are custom Rotiform LHR-M units with gold painted centers. Behind the wheels are Baer brakes and Hawk pads at all four corners. Another cool feature of this build is the front bumper is made from aluminum and has three inlets integrated to feed the radiators. In back are aluminum bumperettes.

On the Inside

Rolls-Royce is known for the quality interior materials. Slay Poupon might not have the same level of luxury, but it does have an insane handbrake. It is called the ‘Yardstick’ and when pushed forward it locks the front brakes. Pull it back and it locks up the rears. Can’t call something a Rolls-Royce without copious amounts of wood inside. And the build team did include as much wood as possible. The yardstick is wood, the dash is wood, the top of the door trims are wood. There are four Sparco seats inside as well. Those are leather, and not wood. And possibly the cleverest bit are the two fans built into the rear firewall. These are there to extract smoke out of the cabin when this car is slaying tires.

Time to Party

The car is complete and ready to be thrust into service. And Hoonign service is a tough duty. It will be drifting and doing burnouts all over the place very soon. Checkout the video below to see everything it took to build this Rolls-Royce with a Mopar heart.
