Cigarette Lighter/Accessory Socket Fix

Cigarette Lighter/Accessory Socket Fix
Has your Lighter/Accessory socket quit working, yet the fuses. etc. are all fine? This just happened to me and a search of the forums showed several others with the same problem, but no solutions. So I took mine apart (95 Avenger ES) and here is what I found. *Diagram and picture included.*
The bottom of the socket has two positive (+) metal strips seperated by a non cunductive washer while connected with a small black wire that in actuality is a fusible link. It takes very little to blow this link. In my case, airing up a tire with a HD 12v compressor did it.One could replace the link (small and tedious...read fragile), orbuy a new socket from one of the various vendors or do as I did. I took the thing apart, removed the non-conductive washer and fusible link, tossed them and reassembled what was left to get a working socket. It's all still protected by the fuse so I feel safe enough with the results. As always, YMMV.
Good luck.

RE: Cigarette Lighter/Accessory Socket Fix
Thanks for sharing that with us Dennis
Mine died at around 50k. I never tried to even fix it until around another 25k or so. My lighter was too caked up to use anymore, but the socket still charged my cell phone...do you have a fix for those lighters? Aside from not smoking, lol.
