I'd NOT paint them if you want them black take them in for powdercoating ... About $100/$150 depending on area MUCH better looking and won't chip

It's just a temp thing. I want to buy new wheels in a about 6 months or so. The paint job will cost me about 20 bucks if I go matt black

I painted my stock rims Graphite and it took quite a few rock hits and several months of Interstate/highway/local driving to finally chip the driver's side rim. 1 coat of primer , three coats of paint, and 3 coats of clear made it pretty tough, lol. My aftermarket rims took one rock and one day on an Interstate to Louisiana to chip it [:@]
They looked like it only had one coat of each. Not all brands are made equally of course.

A powder coated rim will be a tough cookie to crack and if the stock rims weren't so dang soft and prone to bending, I would have done that over aftermarket rims...just a personal preferrence.
A painted rim can be pretty tough too if it's done with enough coats (no, it's not like wearing layers of clothing, it won't make the rim look bulky). Since it's not a permanent look, I say paint it. It should take about roughly 6 hours of time to do all four wheels...depends on how patient you are and how good you want them to look.

So you think black matt or a black gloss is the way to go?

Well, if you're going to paint them black, I think gloss is better. That's just me though.

Hey, those look good! Although, I would have masked off the lip and kept them chrome, just to break up the black and accent the rims a bit.

Photoshopped it back in. Your right! I could just sand the paint out right? That lip never got scuffed to well anyways because it was not alloyed liked the rest of the wheel and it stayed pretty shiny.Or what do you think about painting it white or ven chrome?
