Default Question about labor on 4g63-t swap

Hey all - i'm on the brink of swapping a 4g63-t and a manual trans in my 2.5L auto venge. i don't have the equipment to do a swap in my own home, so i'm looking around to see how much it's gonna cost to have a good mechanic do it for me.

essentially, i'd like done what silver did minus the awd. that can come later. i'm not too worried about the engine swap. that's practically bolton. however, the transmission would be difficult in my mind, considering i'd have to get a clutch pedal/other connections put in, etc. also, how long would i expect the car to be out of commision? she's my daily driver.

let me know guys!

by the way, is hoping for as low as $1000-$1500 in labor (alone, JUST labor, not parts unless there's another big partother than theengine/trans) too much to hope for? i have no clue what it'd cost.

All the 4G63t swaps I know of were I4's to start since you are a V6 hard to tell ... Since you'll be needing Clutch/slave tranny amd engine mounts other then what you have you'll be looking at BIG money in parts and labor ...
I'm assuming you'll get a donor car to strip parts out of ... With a descent donor car You'll be looking around $2000/$3000 for a pro to do it ...
redifined rides WAS doing swaps , dunno what Jason was charging ...

I was thinking the same amount as BV.
The tranny swap isn't as hard as you might think. That's actually kind of a "modular" system. You're also not swapping the tranny if your donor car is a manual, you'll only be swapping out the auto tranny "controls" and swapping in the manual's hydraulic "controls". Our cars are ready for them, it's just a matter of opening the firewall for the master cylinder. A good shop shouldn't have issues with that at all. The motor mounts are what's going to stump them for a second or two, lol. That and there's a spot on the frame that needs to be trimmed and it will also require some sort of rebolstering. It's a part of that whole frontal crash zone.
It may start at $1500, but it may get up there in labor pricing alone. Just a heads up.

..btw, mine was a V6

The AWD swap and what needs to be done is here..
http://www.automotivearticles.com/AWD_Conversion.shtml
Nothing that couldn't be done in a weekend as long as the prep work was already done while the parts were sitting around and something that is ready to be bolted up. I say a weekend if there were two working and the donor car sitting next to you so that you can have a reference and minor parts also. It may take a week or longer too if you're not in any rush and do things as they come up..sand, paint, and the other stuff.

A donor car is the car that you get the parts off of. It's the donor, lol.

Thats what I thought you made it seem as tho it was a car along side your car that you look over at to compare to, thats what threw me off and made me wonder. But I'm not gonna do the swap way too advanced for me. I was thinking about tearing down the interior myself and dropping it off over there so they charge less on labor. Also I heard behind the dash was a $300lbs peice that is some sort of silencer you know anything about that?
