Default 97 avenger tranny problem

ok i've spent 2 hours now looking through the posts and i see alot of people having slipping problems with 2nd or 3rd gear but don't see anybody ask'g about my problems so here it goes. i bought my car with 85k miles on it about 3 months ago and the only problem is a misfire check engine code, which i'm pretty sure can be easily fixed by replacing the distributor since when i hook up a timing light to the cables i get inconsistent flashing. i had the stalling out problem last month and getting my fuel pump replaced solved that problem. the problem i can't figure out now is that my engine is slipping out of first into neutral randomly after i come to a stop. it does it primarily within the first 10 min or so of starting it. to add to that i don't seem to be getting any power until my rpms hit around 2.5k and my tranny shifts at around 6k (which concerns me since 6.5k is redline) if anybody has any suggestions about what to look for in the tranny i'd appreciate it ... the fluid doesn't smell or look funny and i don't have any shavings comming up on the dipstick so i'm at a loss. thanks =)

Ck your fluid level 1st and ck for any codes. you could have a front pump loosing its prime, causing the transmission to feel like it lost 1st gear.
