Getting ready to do an engine overhaul. Can I add a turbo and how much will the motor handle without blowing up? It is a 420a with a 5 speed manual.

 

Yes turbo kitsare readily available properly built I've seen 300+ dyno slips

 

On internals 5-8psi of boost. I could you could run 10psi but I wouldn't risk it. Anymore boost I would stud the heads and get lowcompression pistons.

 

Looking at setting the waste gate up at 7lbs so I should be fine. Seems weird to talk about adding studs for 10lbs of boost. My cummins makes 45-50 at wot.

 

You can run 10lbs on stock internals aswell. some even run 12lbs. Me I personnally wouldn't exscpecially for a someone who is constantly pushing there car.

Im getting a garret t3 out of a salvage yard for $25 going to go take it out friday, if the car has an intercooler on it I will get that too if not I will order the parts and custom make one. We have around 30' of SS pipe i am going to fab the pipes out of. Will post pics as I do everything. Going to pull the tranny and motor out next month to start the rebuild on both. Going to go slow and do it right as time and money allows. By the way did a compression check and #4 cylinder is dead the car has been getting 24 MPG on 3 cylinders.
