96 avenger wont turn over starter
I drove my 96 avenger 2.5 L automatic transmission Monday night with no indication of any problems etc. Tuesday AM nothing. It just clicks and I can hear the fuel pump.
So far I have changed the starter, ignition switch and ignition cylinder. I have 12 volts from the battery at the starter. I can actually start the car by bypassing the ignition.
I was told it could be the neutral safety switch. I looked in the chiltons manual but I cant find the thing where it is supposed to be.
Does this sound like it could be the problem? Something else? Where is the neutral safety switch? Help Please!

I don't know where the nuetral safety switch is at on the V6 vegenes but on the I4's its located on top of the trans. With you bypassing the ignition how are you doing that? Are you sure your getting proper ground?
I'm bypassing the ignition by inserting a wire into the starter at the selinoid and touching the other end to the positive battery cable. Starts just fine that way. I don't really know whether I'm getting proper ground or not. I'm also not really sure how to check.
I know, thats what the chiltons manual said. I have a picture in the manual but mine doesn't look like the picture. I removed two other sensors in this location but neither matched the replacement part I got from the auto parts store. It's not under some sort of cover or actually inside the trans is it?
hey, i have a 96 avenger 420a and i have the same problem, if i wired up a switch to turn my car over other than turning thekey the last click, would it harm anything?
thanks
