Default Automatic Trans Lugging

I have a 97 V6 (Auto, of course) and in fourth gear, every couple days or so, my car will lug, in a way I can only compare to a manual transmission lugging. I know my fluid is in SERIOUS need of replacement and/or a good flush, but I was wondering if that would fix the problem. It doesn't happen in any other gears; only fourth and aroun 40 - 55 MPH. I've googled my heart out, but I couldn't find anyone with a similar problem. Please help! Thanks!

I've only heard similar trouble twice before one was a torque convertor trouble the other was a tranny internal trouble...

You need to cover basic 1st. Ck engine lite on? any codes if the lite is on. How are CVIspecs. We already know the fluid is burnt. Just as bad venge had stated, Torque converter maybe locking up, or something is comingon inside the trans thats not good.

CEL is on but codes being throw are from Evap and O2 sensors. If you could elaborate on "CVI", I'll try my best to tell you what's going on with what. Thanks for the help!

CVI = Clutch volume index. How much fluid it takes fill the clutch packs.
