Small temp changes are normal especially sitting at idle, if the temp comes down when moving I'd say it's likely OK ... My fan hardly ever kicks on I ran a light to be sure it was working , and yes it runs but not often ...

Well THINK about it ...
At Idle the car is not working very hard lower RPM's ect ...(Also the fan might be kicking on)
When you start moving the car has to work RPM's go up as well as underhood temps ...
OF COURSE the temps will go up ,you have some cooling as air is forced thru the radiator ,but not enough to negate everything ... Bottom line if it moves a small amount it's likely normal

ok found out tht the fan does kick off but thts when it hit like 3/4 of the gauge... then cools down to half...

at times it goes up and down a lot... so my question is.... where is it normally suppose to stay?
mebe my cat is blocked? or is it the fusible links? I noticed there is a RAD FAN HI and a RAD FAN LOW.. so mebe the fan is not kicking in?

mine normally runs 1/2 gauge ...it moves maybe 1/8" up or down ...
not following the rest of the fusible length statement

well theres 3 fusible links for the rad fan.. just wondering if one of them were bust?

my concern really is the same as before.... the fan is turning on when the needle is way over 3/4th the gauge... just wondering what can i start changing?

abt the cat... I do have a exhaust leak... and I read here something about overheating because of a plugged cat?

the fusible links can be checked just like a fuse/wire get an ohmeter and check them for continuity .... if I remember properly the one fan only runs when ac is engaged passenger side...

clogged cat can cause overheating ....but an exhaust leak should let it still breathe enough

as an offhanded guess I'd change the sensor that turns the fan on
