PCM question
I'm at wits end. Here isa rundown of my issues with my 97 dodge Avenger ES 2.5:
It started with a rough idle. As a result the following was done:
1. Changed fuel filter
2. Changed all plugs, wires and distributor.
3. Changed MAP sensor and CPS
It runs a bit better but still not perfect. In cold weather it stalls.
As of late I've been getting the CEL. Codes say that I have a cylinder misfire. As a result I changed the distributor w/ coil. Still getting the error message.
My brother in law figures that it may be the PCM that is shot. Any ideas on how I can get that tested to see if it is working? Or where I could find one that works to replace it?
In any event between the rough idle and the error message I'm starting to get frustrated. I love this care and what to make it last. It only has 130000km on it.
Thanks for any help that comes my way!

ok so how bad was the rough idle? i had a issue witht he pcm mine was a really bad idle mpg and i had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it going. my CEL said it was a ict sensor and a iat sensor and i changed both nothing happend. so i replaced the pcm and poof it ran like it was brand new lol to me any way.. i would try to swap one out with a buddy or something or find a low priced one for your year and engine on ebay there always on there and they arent much i paid 30 bucks with shipping. hope it helps

The idle varied. At times I too needed to keep my foot on the gas pedal or it would stall. Then it would go away and stay at around 600-700 rpm with a few gurgles here and there. I'm leaning towards swapping out the PCM and give it a shot. Can't hurt right? Did you have to do anything special when you swapped out the old one and replaced it?
I'll check ebay and see what they have.
Thanks!

No nothing hard to it. just make SURE you disconect the battery and keep the PCM away from it lol dont set it on it, i swear i about did an cought my self like WTF. just disconect the old pcm becarful taking the conectors off and plug it in to the new one and turn the key. it may be a bit jumpy at first, thus this is the pcm learning, and check to see how it runs and for a CEL light. let us know what happens. And i beleave the PCM has to be the same as for your year and motor dont know if it will swap out with a diffrent year i know the 2.0 ones wont work.. good luck

It's on the can ... Pull a vacumn hose and let it pull into the intake , I run 1/2 the can thru , then pour the other 1/2 in the gas tank

Okay so I replaced my PCM with another one. Now my car stalls when I come to a stop. RPM's slowly dip down to zero then.....stall. My next step is using the seafoam. I'll see if that corrects the stall. I'll update once that is complete.
