Jumping when pulling away
I have a '98 2.0 manual trans Avenger with 140,000 miles on it. A couple of months ago, she started jumping a bit when you pull away in 1st gear. It almost feels like I'm jack rabbiting like I don't know how to drive stick. I've been driving stick for over 15 years and have never had this problem. I have to be really gentle with it or it jumps pretty good. I took it back to my mechanic and he said he could get her to do it. He adjusted the clutch, and it's a little more aggressive on take off, but the problem still remains. It does it all the time now and despite what I do to fix it, nothing changes.
A couple of days ago I heard on the radio someone talking about having this problem with their car. The guy on the radio said that it was grease on the clutch that causes it to grip and slip. Could this realy be the problem? If not does anybody know what's causing the problem and how I can fix it?

I having a similar problem it feels as tho the my clutch is rappidly grabbing and slipping, like my flywheel is warped. It only happens in 1st and reverse after a long drive or if im constantly inching forward like you would in traffic. This is also the only car I've had this happen to, I had one tech get it to happen to and he said mounts, and do a tune up. Bassically it soundslike my engine is jumping up and down under the hood.
I would check your motor mounts aswell. I have narrowed it down to my rear motor mount.

I've checked the mounts, they're all fine. Nothing under the hood is original. Changed the engine, trans, clutch, flywheel, master and slave cylinders. Started out just as a slight jitter when I'd start off. Then after I had the clutch replaced it really started getting bad. Toke it back to the mechanic and he said that he could get it to jump. When I picked it up, it was fine for a couple of days then started again. Could it be the clutch stop position?
Would really like to get the car into racing performance, but with this problem I'm afraid I'm going to throw the engine through the hood of the car if I take off to fast.
Help me!

I honestly don't know I was hoping you found out something. For the longest time I couldn't get any1 else to do it. They kept saying its driver error. I had one co-worker pull it off oncewhen he moved my car for me he also said mounts. I have also replaced the master and slave cylinder (clutch release valve) flush the lines checked the mounts adjusted the peddle. Did a tune up and still she jumps. Even posted up on other forums and still they saying the samething. I lost hope and now I either stall her out, let off the clutch and let her roll the hit the gasor burn the clutch so it won't happen again. Im praying its this mount, and not something with the clutch and/or crankshaft.
When it started hoppin ill hit the clutch and I could hear something still spinning. I even tried to keep givin her gas but it just got worse I felt the vibration through the whole body. WHEN YOU FIND OUT PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!
