Default 98 Dodge Avenger spark problems?

98 dodge avenger, V6 2.5L , Mitsubishi engine. Uses conventional distributor ignition system(not ignition module)Originally my car worked fine in the morning, then later I tried to turn it on but it on but it would not start. I took out the spark plugs but I had no sparks.I replaced three out of the six spark plugs since the other three are difficult to access. Then I removed rotor and distribution cap and cleaned them as much as I could but I still get no sparks. Is there a way to check the distribution cap to make sure it is not shorted out?How can I check the rotor using multimeter? If it is a coil problem, how can I check it using multimeter?

Any insight in this problem or advice will be appreciated.

Do you hear the fuel pump kick on ??? Check for 12V on the fuel pump ... The SAME voltage supplies the fuel pump and the Distributor ... No fuel pump the ASD relay kicks in and kills the spark

More info would be of a big help for me about how it worked before and afterwards ? Also all you have done to it so far, and what went on then ? Sounds like your saying this happened without prior problems before hand is that right? The motor is turning over easy, and just not starting ?

Since you already cleaned your cap and rotor and cleaned all the carbon, Was inside the cap damp? If it was you may have shorted out. But if not I think your problem is the coil and that is also inside the distributor, If you havent already if you swap out your distributor you should be up and running.

I am having a pretty aggravating problem with my 98 avenger 2.5L. I cant get any spark from my plugs. I have replaced all the usual, distributor cap, checked battery, replaced plugs, replaced sensors, fuel pump comes on, i just don't know what else to do besides taking it to a garage and I'd rather not spend that kind of money, but i basically rebuilt this car. Please someone help!!!

ASD Relay , or a bad distributor are the likely causes
