Are my R.P.M's too high?
I have a 96 Dodge Avenger ES V6 2.5L DOHC and on the expressway, doing about 75 m.p.h, my revs are at about 4kRPM. I wonder if this is too high because I had a 2.2L 4cyl Camry and it did 80m.p.h at about 2.8kRPM. I'm afraid that I might be hurting the engine or that this might be a sign of some kind of problem like the O/D is stuck off or it's not downshifting correctly. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry for the last reply. Couldn't reply on DF kept loggin me off.
Short answer NO. That is why our gas mileage is so low for what power our cars produce. I know for a fact you can swap in a Dodge Neon engine for better gas mileage on the I4 engine I don't know about the V6.

I now know that it's not going into overdrive/fourth gear. Could this be caused by a bad solenoid or is the whole transmission just shot? If the solenoid is bad, wouldn't the TCM put out a code?
