1995 Avenger still having issues
Well i took my avenger to the shop and they seem to think its the transmission
Still drivable for now so will have to save for that fix. My current problem is it won't start. Won't even turn over .When i turn the key the dash lights come on but doesn't crank. I hear a click from under the hood. The guy that had this car before me wired up lights under the dash and seems to have made a mess of them. could this be the problem? The wires in the steering column have be tampered with as well. There is wires in the column that lead to under the hood and are not attached to anything.. had it towed home the first time it happened and it started the next morning and now has done it again after a week of no problems . Any suggestions to what this could be? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like an aftermarket anti theft was installed at one point if there is extra wire leading from the column. Pull the battery and try tracing down all the unused wiring you are suggesting, pull them through the firewall, and disconnect them. While doing so repair and seal up any splices he made in all his "handy work". Might just fix up your non start problem.
Hi, Thanks for the help..had my brother take a look and there was a loose wire leading to the fuse box as well as on the starter..after he tightened them up it started right away and i am once again mobile.
I was told that there are sensors that have to do with the transmission. Are they on the inside of the transmission or on the outside? and could this be the reason that my car jerks when i try to stay at a steady speed? it does it about 50% of the time. its almost like the transmission has an alter ego that's trying to stop me while the other is trying to make me go HAHA sorry only way i can think to explain it.

What transmission do you have? I assuming the Automatic, and what engine do you have 2.5L V6 or 2.0L L4? The transmission sensors (both input and output) are located inside the transmission. The both can be checkt by..
1. Disconnect the input speed sensor connector.
2. Measure the resistance between the input speed sensor side connector terminals 1 and 2.
3.If the resistance is outside 0.3 - 1.2 kilo ohms , replace the input speed sensor.
What driveability concerns are you having with the transmission?

Both sensors are located above the Solenoid and Pressure switch assembly. I think it has 6 bolts in it. Also check you transmission fluid color. Needs to be as redish as possible. Smell it and see if its smells burnt.
Hi, its the 2.5 v6 ..when i reach a speed of around 50 kms if i try to stay at the same speed the car starts to jerk unless i slow down or speed up..wont let me stay at a continuous speed. its does it about 50% of the time.
