Hi there.

I left my 98 Avenger sitting in the lot for about two months without attempting to start it at all. I went to get in to move it and there's a loud squealing noise followed by a chunking sound.

The engine never actually starts.

Thoughts?

 

Does it try and turn over at all and stop, or is it turning over but not starting?

How many miles is on the car? What engine model.

 

Just as an initial diagnosis from what you've said it sounds like it could be a timing belt, but I'd definitely check the fire and fuel out before doing anything major!
