my 99 avenger s check engine light will not stay off. I get a random misfire error. Ive tuned it up and changed the wires but still it comes on and then off for awhilethen back on. The car runs fine except for that and i need to get it smogged. Is there something else for me to do?

New plugs / Were the Plugs dry/oil free ???

 

yes oil/moisture free,new cap new rotor etc..no hesitation or misfire feeling. just that damn light(check engine)

 

Unfortunately Distributors next ... I'd dissassemble and double/triple check it ... Distro's BIG $$$

 

I have the same issue, but I have the 2.0 liter...It says I have a misfire in the primary ignition circuit, but I've changed everything from the plugs, wires, coil pack, crank sensor, cam sensor, even the IAC motor and the TPS...I ran out of things to change and kinda gave up. Car runs fine though, but the CEL comes on every now and then with the same code...

 

This might sound iffy but try some injector cleaner. I get a simmilar issue every 6 months, burn some injector cleaner and it clears right up.

 

Yup check injectors next ...

 

if someone can tell me what i can do, that be great. i have a 99 dodge avenger. it ran great when i first got it in the beginning of the month, but when i changed the tires and the oil found a leak. so changed valve cover gasket. car ran that day, the next it stopped. would not start. had no spark. changed the distributor and the cap still nothing. changed the spark plugs and the wires one at a time made sure they were on right. still nothing. changed the distributor core and coil ran 10 to no more then 20 miles an hr. but it misfired bad. wants to stall out. u have to baby the gas petal, to get going. put fuel injector cleaner in and everything. and i still have a oil leak. i think its oil. looks like oil. got the map sensor changed n now runs but still hesitates have to baby the gas. what can i do, done sunk 1,500 to 2,000 to repair this damn car not even had it a month n now i am broke. oh yea and the check engine light goes on and off stays on especially when the over drive O/D is on.

 

I'd guess fuel pump or fuel filter by the baby the gas pedal

 

well r u thinking that i need to fix that or is that what u know. lol and how much is that gonna cost me. another issue that i just noticed when i turn on the defrost to unfog the windows the car stopped moving and started shaking bad. i dont know what to do bout that. they said something bout the drive sensor. what is that? i am thinking its something to do with the idol sensor. well let me know then we figure out from their.
