valve cover gasket, wow took an hour to get out
Hello everyone,,, on my 2.5 v6 dodge avenger I am attempting to change the distributor and while doing this i am taking off the intake plenum and the valve covers and replacing plugs wires and the gaskets.. Ok so i got the front valve cover off and the gasket that was on there was so hard and seemed like it was melted in the groove,, it took me over an hour to get it off,, i was using a little screwdriver and breaking it off piece by piece,,, What a pain,, is there any tip to doing this on the back one alot faster and easier.... I also hope i didnt hurt the valve cover because i was getting alittle rough with the screwdriver.... Oh well i got the new gasket in the slot now and i think i will put alittle bit of high temp silicone around it just in case,,, any info would be great if i read this in time.... thank you Also bad venge if you read this on my distributor i see on the new one there is a slotted hole on one side,, do i need to mark anything or just unbolt the old one slide it out and slide this new one in and that is it right.. thank you
I used brake cleaner/carb cleaner to soften up the gasket and a small gasket scraper:

Use a good gasket sealant to set the new one and the Orings tube seals
distro goes right in it's keyed to only line up one way. the slot allow a little wiggle room
