Question 97 Avenger dies when coming to stop signs

Car has the 2.5 V6 and shifts smooth through all the gears but it seems like it is not downshifting on its own. I bought this car for my son as a daily driver for school. I haven't turned it over to him yet though. Are there solenoids that control shifting on these transmissions? The car had a CEL when I got it and I took it to a buddies house to run a scan and it gave us an O2 code and 2 tranny codes but I do not remember what they were Something about 1st and 3rd gears. The codes have been cleared but the problem persists. Car runs fine but when you slow down for a stop sign the idle gets so low that the engine dies. I can somewhat stop it by shifting the car manually but even then it seems the idle is still low most of the time. When car is 1st started engine idle is normal and when I 1st put it in gear it seems normal. Its not until I start driving and the car shifts gears that I have this problem. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

you'd need to get the codes for the tranny ...
there are sensors that can cause it not to shift properly as well as a solenoid pac that shifts it as well

for the not idleing at stops

I always recomend cleaning the intake and TB first and see if that helps , next remove the IAC and clean and scrub the tip and see if that helps. The last resort is to replace it
Start the car and LISTEN for airleaks if you suspect a leak use throttle body cleaner and spray the leak , if the idle smooths out or revs the leaks your trouble.

Also the EGR can cause it , remove the bolts off the back and fashion a block off out of a sodacan or similar and reattach it. If the car idles correctly EGR is bad.

I found the paper I wrote the codes down on. The 1st code was P0700, 2nd was P134 and 3rd was P135. My buddy who ran the codes did not have the proper cable to run any live data so we were kind of stuck after we pulled the codes. I have already cleaned the T/B. It was actually pretty clean when I inspected it. I have not checked the IAC though. Anyone know what these last two codes could mean? I know the 1st is O2 sensor related and it has not come back on since we cleared the codes.

Edit to add. the car idles fine when it is put back in neutral or park. The dying only happens when the car is decelerating to a stop. Also how do I post a pic of the car on here. Sorry for the newbie question but I just joined the forum last night. I think I got a good deal on the car even though it has this small quirk. Thanks

OK I found the other paperwork my buddy printed off of I think all-data. One is speed ratio error in 1st gear and the other is speed ratio error in 3rd gear. Does this point to a serious transmission problem?

The Ratio error can be a bad input speed sensor or more serious troubles
sensors cheap like $20/$40

Are the sensors external or inside trans? Are you talking about a wheel sensor? Sorry still very new to this car.

Good I will check that when my manual comes in that I ordered. Hopefully this is an easy fix. Thanks
